Continuous representations

چکیده
This essay contains somewhat drymaterial, mostly useful inmotivating eventually a certain crucial but at first sight somewhat technical transition from representations of groups to representations of Lie algebras. Parts of it will also be used in the theory of automorphic forms. I have made some effort to reduce everything to well known facts inmeasure theory and topology. The standard reference for thematerial here is [Borel:1972]. I have also used [Weil:1965].

We study the double cosets of a Lie group by a compact Lie subgroup. We show that a Weil formula holds for double coset Lie hypergroups and show that certain representations of the Lie group lift to representations of the double coset Lie hypergroup.
